The public website

The Chinwag website is a static marketing and support site. It does not offer browser gameplay, create an account, set an analytics cookie or store a pack selection in your browser.

If you choose the “Tell me when it is live” link, your email app opens a message to Chinwag. Nothing is sent until you choose to send it. The address is used for the promised one-time launch reply and is not added to a general marketing list.

What the iPhone app stores on your device

The app stores your room choice, Family Mode setting, selected packs and the IDs of question cards you have already seen on your iPhone. That history helps new rounds prefer unseen cards across launches and never contains answers, votes or names. It does not ask for or store your date of birth. Chinwag does not send this state to its own server, and deleting the app removes it.

What Chinwag does not collect

Hosting and network records

Chinwag is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like other web infrastructure providers, Cloudflare may process standard network information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as IP addresses, request times, requested URLs and browser details. Chinwag does not use these records to create player profiles or track behaviour across websites.

Purchases

Version 1.0 contains no in-app purchases, subscriptions or advertising. From version 1.0.1, Apple processes monthly and yearly Chinwag Plus subscriptions. Chinwag never receives your full payment-card details.

RevenueCat processes an anonymous app user identifier, subscription status and purchase history so the app can unlock Plus, restore purchases and understand subscription performance. Chinwag does not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address, answers, selected decks or advertising identifier. This information is used for app functionality and subscription analytics, is not used for cross-app tracking and is not linked to an Chinwag account because Chinwag has no accounts.

Sharing

If you choose Share Chinwag, the app asks iOS to open its share sheet. The shared message includes a link to the public Chinwag website. Chinwag does not learn who you shared it with or which app you chose.

Crash reporting

From version 1.0.1, Chinwag reports crashes and errors to Sentry so faults can be found and fixed. Sentry is self-hosted on Chinwag’s own server at sentry.joshsalway.com, so diagnostics are not shared with a third-party analytics company. A report contains the error, the stack trace, the app version and basic device and operating-system information.

Question text is removed before a report leaves your iPhone. Chinwag identifies a card by combining its deck with its question, so the app rewrites those identifiers to the deck name alone and drops console breadcrumbs entirely. Crash reports therefore contain no question text, no answers, no votes and no card history. This information is used for app functionality, is not used for tracking and is not linked to an Chinwag account because Chinwag has no accounts.

Analytics decision

From 5 August 2026 the Chinwag website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages people find useful. It is configured with IP anonymisation on, and with Google Signals and advertising personalisation switched off, so it is not used for advertising or cross-site profiling. Google sets cookies to recognise a returning browser. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on or by blocking the domain. This applies to the website only: the iPhone app contains no analytics SDK and sends no usage data. RevenueCat provides subscription analytics from the anonymous purchase information described above, and Sentry provides the crash diagnostics described above. Chinwag does not run advertising analytics or behavioural profiling.

Age and children

Chinwag asks who is in the room, not whether the device user is 18. If anyone playing is under 18, Family Mode limits the catalogue to reviewed mixed-age questions, disables adult modes and hides purchases. On supported Apple devices, the Declared Age Range service may return a privacy-preserving range that routes the app automatically. Chinwag does not receive or store a birthday, exact age, range bounds or declaration method. Family Mode does not create child accounts or personalise content for a child. Chinwag does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

This notice will be updated before adding other features that materially change data handling. The effective date at the top will change when that happens.
